Welcome to Class 1R's Page!
I hope your children had a lovely break over the October half term. They have all come back with great energy towards their work and each other.
Our Topic this term is: Time Travelling Toys!
For this topic we will be focusing on Design and Technology and History.
In DT, we will be looking at different materials toys are made from, select materials we would like to use and create our own hand puppet, finally we will evaluate our hand puppets.
In History, we will be looking at toys from the past, asking questions to investigate what toys our parents and grandparents played with, what those toys were made from and what old/new means.
In maths, we will be looking at Part, Part, Wholes. Focusing on what a whole is, finding wholes and not wholes, then looking into what apart is. The children will be building their knowledge on this through practical lessons where they can independently show their understanding.
This half term we will be moving to more formal learning. This is where the children access and complete work independently, before moving onto our new Challenge Den!
In Literacy we will be using the book Dogger written by Shirley Hughes. This book will help us create our own losing story, where our main character loses something within the story.
Our main focus here will be letter formation and sizing, using finger spaces, capital letters at the start of sentences and punctuating the end of sentences.
The Star of the Week is …
We have finished our first class book! The children have voted and selected a new book: George's Marvellous Medicine written by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake.
I hope the children love this book as much as I do!
For our next class book we will be wrapping up the story and just selecting it from a blurb! We will listen to each blub, think about which story we would like and then vote. This book with the most votes will be our new class book!
If you have any suggestions for a class chapter book, please let me know :)
In 1R, we have a teddy. This teddy is called Brian Bear and he will go home with a child who has been AMAZING in many different ways.
Brian Bear has a book which will come home as well. In this book please draw, write or add pictures of what you have done over the weekend with him.
Brian LOVES to listen to children read to him before bed, so please make sure you tuck him up and read a bedtime book to him.
Brian Bear is very special to me, so please do take care of him!

If you are able to support children with their reading by coming into school and listening to children read, then please let me know. We are desperate for the help and would appreciate any time you or a family member could give to us!
If you have any questions please feel free come in to speak to me.
